Dalla Terra is a Melbourne based private fine dining business, serving unique & seasonally driven Italian/Modern Australian cuisine, using organic & ethically sourced ingredients. The client required a logo and typeface to match the curated nature of each customised menu.

Brief

A friend who is a private chef approached me to create something truly unique and indicative of their craft. A custom logo and typeface for Dalla Terra, his seasonal, Italian-Australian private dining experience. He wanted a design that felt as carefully crafted as his menus, and needed the type to harmonise with an existing botanical illustration that formed part of the brand.

Solution

I started with research and moodboards, drawing inspiration from vintage signage, rustic ephemera, and old-world serif forms. Once we aligned on a visual language, I sketched the letters out and used Glyphs to create the typeface. 

We ended up creating two styles: Dalla Tarra Regular, a clean and elegant version, and Dalla Terra Rough, a hand-rendered version with a natural edge. I then designed the logo using the typeface itself to ensure complete harmony across the brand.

Result

The result is a truly custom typographic identity that mirrors the chef’s ethos: thoughtful, personal, and deeply crafted.
He now uses the fonts across his website, custom menus, and digital communications. The brand feels as curated as the dining experience itself.
